Painted Plywood Floors - Basketball Court - Preparation

If you've followed my plywood floor series so far, you'll know that I'm painting nearly the entire upstairs floor of my new dream home...but so far I've only shown you the steps for preparing and designing the hallway.  There's 3 other bedrooms, a bathroom, and a utility room!  They need some love too.

The next few posts will detail the time spent on my daughter's floor...a basketball court.  It turned out to be one of the favorites of anyone coming to visit, and has garnered quite a bit of attention among family and friends.  So follow along as I take her plywood floor from this:

This process will pick up where the prior series left off.  Our upstairs subfloor is standard OSB builder's grade particle board.  It has been sanded down using a variety of belt, hand, and orbital sanders until they were smooth.  The seams and nail holes were then filled in with subfloor/plywood filler, and sanded again.  Three layers of primer have been applied and now it's time to get down to business.

In our next article, we'll go over the process of picking a base wood color and begin laying out the borders.

So follow along and see how we do it!
